This species is very endanger, with a population of fewer than 500 birds remaining in the wild, because of habitat destruction, hunting, and illegal trapping for the pet trade.

It is a propose Central American species of parrot living in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. It was describe in 2017 in the journal PeerJ; however, its existence as a distinct wild species native to the Yucatan Peninsula has been question.
